Casino

I took Dad to the Casino this weekend at the wee hour of 5:30 something. He did ok. I think he broke even or close to it. What I found interesting is that dealer kept making really boneheaded mistakes. On 2 different occasions, the dealer starting taking the money even though the player won. He would start collecting and everyone was like "hold it hold it." He then would see his mistake and would have to call over the guy who kind of observes. I also don't understand why they have hard time figuring out the bets. Yeh, I couldn't do it but I am not a dealer! Why do the players have to help them. The game Dad plays is 3-card poker and the payout is different depending on the hand. A flush pays 5 to 1 for example.

Welcome Baby Carson!

Just heard from Shari that Alison gave birth to a healthy baby boy tonight! His name is Carson Thomas (after Josh's dad Tom and Alison's dad Tom), he weighs 5 lbs and is 19" long. He has curly hair, blue eyes, beautiful full lips, and a has a dimple in his chin to match his mom and dad. Alison was induced this morning, a week or so shy of her due date, due to preclampsia. We're so happy to hear that all went well and that mom and baby are doing great! Congratulations Josh, Alison, new grandparents Tom and Shari, Aunt Rachel, Uncle Zach, and Uncle Gabe! We can't wait to see him!

I was talking to Grandma today over at their house and she said something about the new baby boyS in the family (Elise's little Landon and Alison's baby). The funny thing is...this was at like 3 PM and we didn't know Carson was going to be a boy! I guess Marilyn has a sense about these things. She said she had so many boys, after all, she should know!

My 3 Sons

Last weekend Nathan bought this 12 foot boat for fishing the shore line on our lake and made a platform to stand on in it.

Virgin Lake

When I was fairly young, maybe a young teen, Amy and I spent around 5 days upnorth by Uncle Charlie's place in Three Lakes. We fished alot. Julie and Terese may have been there but I am not sure. The thing I remember is that Uncle Charlie kept getting my name mixed up with his dog's name. He called me Hankie-Boy a number of times. Amy and I went fishing and caught like 4 or 5 nice crappies. We put them on a stringer and an hour later when we pulled the stringer up, there were no fish! I know the lake was good for fishing but it seems like we never caught much but it was fun anyhow. It would be cool to go back there some day. Mom and Dad almost bought the place but the selling cost changed which made it cost-prohibitive. We were bummed but it made for one good summer.

Shari

Sorry to be dominating the site today, but for those of you who don't know, Shari is having back surgery today, right now, as a matter of fact. This is a more complicated procedure than her previous surgery. She's been told that there will be an extensive recovery period. Her Aunt Linda will be helping her out for a while. We live probably 2 miles from Tom and Shari, so it will be easy for me to pop in and see what I can do, too.

Please keep Shari in your thoughts and prayers today. I believe she'll be at CMH, so check with Tom or one of their kids to see when she can have visitors. If you're able to visit her or bring them a dinner during this recovery period, I'm sure Shari and her family would really appreciate it.

Happy News for Elise and family

While attending Alison's shower yesterday, I learned that Elise gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Landon (please correct me if I've misspelled) on Thursday! I heard he was 7 lbs.11 oz. and that they're both doing well.

Congratulations to the new mommy, Elise, 1st time grandparents, Dean and Hilde, and Aunt Emma and Uncle Ethan! Can't wait to meet your darling little boy! Does anyone have a picture to post?

Alison's Baby Shower

Today, the girls, Grandma, and I attended Alison's baby shower. She is due in 4 weeks. She looked so beautiful with her little round belly. Josh and Alison are waiting to find out the if they're having a boy or a girl, which I think is really neat for your first child. I'm using green font because it reminds me of all the cute outfits she was given in various shades of green, yellow, and cream.

Alison's sister (Katie) is also expecting next spring. Their babies will be the 1st grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their family. I also learned that Alison's grandparents had 12 children, just like Kenneth and Marilyn! What a neat thing that Josh and Al have in common. Lots of family to love their little one! Can't wait to meet their new addition!

We were so happy that Angie came to the party and brought her precious little 7 week old baby girl, Lacey, along. We have been dying to meet her. She is gorgeous, just like her mom. Congratulations Angie, Gavin, and Brody!

Circa 1962: Mike, Renee, Steve, Curt, Joel, Russ, Amy, Dean, Tom, baby Julie... sorry Nick, too soon.

Enjoy this photo for it's innocence...
This is a classic photo of the Ken/Marilyn offspring from around 1962.  It's interesting to see the resemblance in some of us as kids to some of the grandchildren.  Please send forth comments on the props -- Steve with his gun, and Russ with the clarinet?!
I have many more to share -- do you want me to post more?

My Pet Grouse

The past two years I have this grouse that follows me around the woods.
Last year during archery deer season it would fly up in the tree and sit on
a branch next to me. This spring when I would drive the 4-wheeler and mow
grass it would follow me up and down the rows. Now it has gotten so bold it
will let me pick it up. So tonight we are having grouse for dinner and I
wanted to show everyone the picture before we baked him.

Kidding

The fish are from Labor Day weekend when Nick and Patty visited with their
family. Lots of action and filled the freezer with our limits of walleye
and a few really nice smallmouth bass.

Tubing

I know these pictures are not very good but we had a good time tubing. Cole went first. Dan basically gave him the ride of his life. Hannah and Rayna went next. Rayna bailed 1/2 through and then Hannah kept going. They loved it. Thanks Uncle Dan! Oh yeh, Erin loved just riding in the boat.

Comments on posts

Hey everyone,

I'd just like to let those who are not familiar with blogs know how to comment on one another's posts.  At the end of each post, it will read posted by....., the time, and # of comments. If you click on the word "comments", you can then comment on the post. There are prompts there that lead you through commenting. Feel free to e-mail one of us if you have trouble. It's a nice way to have a running dialog with regards to particular posts. That way, too, if you don't have time to post something yourself, you can still participate by commenting.

This is fun. Can't wait to hear from more Beckers! How about the nieces and nephews???

Molly's Work

Wow!!!  Molly’s table looks beautiful.  Thanks for taking the time to submit stuff.  Spread the word so we can hear from everyone!!!

Not much new at our house.  Abby is working at the hospital as a nursing assistant.  She is very happy to be able to cut back on the hours at the nursing home.  Andrew and Katy are back at school.  Andrew liked the first week until classes started.  Now that classes started he is not so sure.

Laura is back in school too.  She is hardly ever home.  She is happy that Abby is back at home as things are pretty quiet and boring.  Ted is visiting for the weekend to get in some fishing.

I am going to get Dan to share some of his fish stories and his Dr Doolittle experiences with his pet grouse.

That’s all for now.

Lovin' the Northwoods

Over the 4th of July this summer, I caught this pic of Tom and Shari as they cruised down the channel into Beaver Lake.  It was another of those gorgeous summer afternoons up north.  Gabe celebrated his 12th birthday that weekend.  Cole and Kaleb were also visiting the Tom Beckers for the weekend and the three boys scoured the lakes in their neverending quest to catch the "big one."             (submitted by Amy)

New way to have a quiet ride home from Lochmann's

We had a great weekend, maybe the best weekend of the year.

Of course riding home can be stressful with 6 kids in the back seat so we thought we would try a new method to keep the kids quiet (see photo.) Its a joke Social Services! Chill out!

We had a pretty smooth ride home. We left at 1 and got home at 7:15, not bad for hitting some bumper to bumper traffic.

It was a great weekend in every way. We made some great memories with the Lochmanns and with each other. Julie made a great meal on Friday Night. My total intake was like 5 roast beef sandwiches, 4 or 5 ears of corn, and more. Dan guided us to some tremendous fishing with Cole catching his first 3 walleyes of his life, Kaleb caught a bunch and a big ugly bullhead. Patty caught her first walleye also. The fish of the weekend was Dan's big smallmouth. Other highlights were tubing, kayaking, and swimming out to the raft.
