Sunday Dinner with K and M
We went over to visit Mom and Dad. They wanted to go out to eat at the Odyssey. We picked up some "groceries" on the way. I think they had a good time. Mom ate very well between the main course and desert. She had eggs benedict.
Dad corrected my driving on the way over, a rolling stop, going through a yellow light, and something else. I hope that works out for him on the next test. He seem to be upbeat about it today. See video highlights of dinner.

Can we talk?
On Friday, Michael and I were driving up north and passing through Minocqua. We noticed a billboard advertising the Saturday night show with Joan Rivers at the Lake of the Torches Casino.
The northwoods is not typically known as the hotbed of entertainment, but we thought we'd liven up an otherwise relaxing evening in front of the fire and check out tickets to Joan Rivers.
How lucky were we! There were tickets left and for only $20. We rejected front row seats to protect our egos from humiliation in case Joan choose us to make fun of.
The casino is only a 30 minute drive from our cabin. We had dinner at the casino restaurant and it was not bad. When the show started, I half expected to see a Joan Rivers impersonator instead of the real thing. The woman is 75 years old and yet she chose to perform at a small time casino in Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin. Despite the plastic surgery, or perhaps because of it, she looked fantastic. As for her act, it was non-stop and no subject was immune from her jokes. When she ventured into Helen Keller jokes, an audience member got up, yelled at her that such jokes were not kind, blah, blah, blah, She let him have it back calling him a few rude names.
The subject of her jokes included some of the following: hollywood stars such as Tom Cruise, Madonna, Angelina; physical characterisics such as being fat or short; male and female genitalia and how they shrink or hang low as we age;Viagra and Cialis; the woman with octuplets; children "yuck"; her grandson Copper or is it Cooper?; and last but not least the tried and true subject matter to bring forth laughter -- FARTS!
It was a fun evening -- I even put $20 into a poker machine and lost $5 of it.

Mom and Dad

A cute photo from my archives.
Nathan, Alex, Mom, Dad, Amy and Michael -- one summer when Mom and Dad drove up to the cabin with the three boys. Kyle must've been taking the photo.
Yesterday, Dad and I (Amy) went driving up to and around West Bend in preparation for his upcoming road test on Thursday. He has a few things to work on, but all in all, I feel that he drives pretty well. Of course, he merges onto the freeway like your typical old fart, but I don't think that is a failable offense. The issue of stopping at a green light when he makes a right turn is another thing. He is now at least aware of this tendency; who knows, he may have been doing this for years. We laughed about how this may be the age-old question of teaching an old dog new tricks! This 2 month process of trying to retain his driver's license has mentally eased Dad into the possibility of losing his license for good. He can take the road test up to 5 times in a year and there is also the possibility of taking a local test which would be given in and around his own community. That would mean a "restricted" license within a designated number of miles from his home.
In the evening, we had meatloaf at mom and dad's. Meatloaf is a favorite of Michael's and Dad's, and Mom used to hate meatloaf. But nowadays, she isn't quite as picky if you sit down together at their table for a good meal. For side dishes, we had mashed potatoes from a box and sauteed turnip greens with bacon.
