Look who got a hold of my camera!

Since my last camera met it’s doom in the icy cold waters of northern Minnesota.  I vowed I wouldn’t let  a kid use my next camera again.

Well, look who got a hold of it?  The second last one is a bit scary!  I wasn’t supervising.   The mom let this go.  I love my new camera.

It’s a Canon and set me back $100 which was money well spent.  Cole actually paid for it as reimbursement for baptizing my Nikon on the BWCA trip.

It’s a family affair

It’s fun getting together with family, telling tales, true and fabricated.  Sometimes, It seems like stuff gets added to stories that may or may not

be true.  I swear I recall Uncle Charlie calling me by his dog’s name..  I am pretty sure that is true.  How can you make that up?  Its too insane.

Michael always has the craziest stories and I think they are mostly true since he is “middle-aged man.”   Muskies jumping in boats!

We also brought up the story when Steve

got that fine for fishing without a license, probably 30 some years ago.   I never realized the warden told Steve he saw him fishing.  I am not sure

he has fished since!  I love hearing the stories and telling them, hoping that I never forget all the great memories from my great family!

Attend Cole's Car Wash for his Eagle Project

Cole will be having a Car Wash on CTH Q  at the Speedway in Germantown/Menomonee Falls on Monday from 2 PM to around 8 PM.  Come out and get your car washed for 5 bucks which goes to buy materials to restore Coolings Meadow in Sussex!   The Speedway is located on the north side of CTH Q between Appleton and the freeway, right across from Burger King, sort of.

Coolings Meadow is natural area near the bug line trail on Waukesha Avenue in Sussex.  This is Cole's Eagle project and includes removing unwanted and exotic species, moving a large sign, staining benches, planting trees and flowers, and other restoration.

He and his gang completed phase 1 about 3 weeks ago which included cutting down dozens of trees and unwanted brush, staining 2 benches, and piling up brush.  The next phase will include planting trees and moving the sign.

You can also come out to the car wash and help, please let us know so we can make sure we have the correct amount of supplies.   As my Mom would say, "The more, the merrier!"

Thank You

Family Photo

This is a photo taken at Abby and Andy's wedding, very well done.   I think we have all held up pretty darn well.  Someone I work with thought Julie was a niece or something like that.  What a great day!

Ghost of Natural Lakes

We encountered this "ghost" of the northwoods on our walk earlier today.
It is always a thrill to see the albino deer and she cooperated for a few photos.
Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Grandma

We celebrated Grandma's birthday a few weeks ago obviously.   We enjoyed steaks made by Kaleb and a cake made by Patty. Grandpa's new grill worked very well.  It was a chaotic night but fun nonetheless.  I had to run the children back and forth for their baseball photos.

Grandpa's Tractor

Grandpa’s tractor has an endless fascination by kids.  Our nephew Austin was all over it and it was a hit on Easter.   As far was what Dad has told me, it was purchased in 1946 or so by Grandpa Nick.   It was running as recently as last year and I think has nothing wrong with it except it has to be pull started.  I recall Grandpa Nick driving it around with only one wheel on the front.

When I was a kid (30 some years ago), I put a bunch of beer cans on the front of it and shot them with my BB gun.  I think we were pretending we were in the TV show “S.W.A.T.” which I loved.  A couple days later, my Dad came storming out of the field and grabbed one of the cans and tore it in half. He was not a happy camper. When he had started the tractor, water sprayed all over the place because we had unknowingly shot holes in the radiator.

I probably hid when I saw him like I used to do when he wanted me to cut the lawn.

Amy & Michael in Tucson, Arizona

The Myers have  settled into our April digs in Tucson, Arizona.  Our drive down went smoothly -- we spent 2 nights on the road in Joplin, MO and Roswell, NM.

The name of our little desert home is Hacienda Elena located on Vista Lejos translates "distant view."  We do indeed have views of the mountains.  We found the home last November on VRBO Vacation Rental by Owner and when vacationing here then, we drove by but could not get inside.  So we were in so many words "taking a pig in a poke."
Much to our delight, the home is wonderful.  It was built in the 60's and still has much of that original charm but with some modern conveniences like air conditioning and Wifi.  The owner is an artist who lives in Santa Cruz, CA where she teaches at a university.  Some of her pieces are displayed on the walls.
The weather in Tucson during April is ideal.  The nights are very cool especially in early April and it warms up to the 70's and 80's by midday.  The hacienda has a pool - with the cool nights now the pool doesn't warm up enough for us wimps.  But with the heat of the day, we may be taking some shocking plunges soon.

Yesterday, we went hiking in the mountains.  The drive to the trailhead took about 15 minutes and we set out with naive enthusiasm.  Thirty minutes later our hearts were beating in overdrive and my thigh muscles were screaming "stop."  We trudged on passing a few exhilirated hikers coming down who asked us "Are you going to the top?"  Nope, not in this lifetime.
My sore muscles may be an incentive to do some strength training... Michael did not have any muscle pain.
I'll keep you posted on that plan.
But look forward to more photos from the Myers.
