Joel, the family Knack Man.

Knack man, Joel, to the rescue.

We, the Myers, have been redecorating a bit at our Hubertus house.  Several weeks ago we picked out a new foyer light fixture and put off the installation due to the challenges inherent in our foyer ceiling (20 feet in height) and a stairways angling through the space.  This was not a job for the do-it-yourselfer.  Michael pondered over the situation for many days and decided to borrow scaffolding from brother, Joel, and asked Joel to assist in the electrical part of the installation.

We picked up the scaffolding and decided to "save time" by assembling the parts and be all ready for Joel to climb up and switch over the fixtures.  Michael and I were repeatedly stymied by the cross braces, rungs, planks, and fitting the scaffold in the space -- within walls, ceilings, steps, and stair rails.   We measured and re-measured.  Much thought and analysis (too much)  went into the placement and erection of the first level...  This was a classic case of "paralysis by analysis."  Michael's stress level was rising.  I, as the dental assistant, tried to remain calm.  Then we had an "aha" moment and determined that three heads were better than one.

The truth of the matter is that Joel's head is better than anyone's!  He arrived the next evening; and calmly and systematically, Joel, with Michael as major laborer, assembled the scaffolding, lowered the existing fixture, raised and installed the new fixture, disassembled the scaffolding, and "voila" we were in business.  Not a nick or a scratch to the walls, floor, or fragile light fixture.

I have always been in awe of Joel's ability to look at a problem, not as a problem, but as a challenge or better yet, an opportunity.  No job is too complicated or undoable for Joel.  Whenever we've sought his help on an engineering task, while Michael and I typically worry and obsess about how it will be done.... Joel, simply and efficiently, does it and always does it well.

Here are photos of the scaffolding and of the installed light fixture.
